I’ve got a small stock of one-of-a-kind stoneware raku pieces, most of which are for sale. Raku is an exciting firing process where red-hot ceramic pieces are rushed from the kiln into a trash can filled with wood shavings and paper. As the wood blazes up, a tight-fitting lid is immediately clapped on. When the fire inside uses up the oxygen, it smokes and smolders out, which causes all kinds of interesting iridescent and metallic changes in the glaze. No two are ever alike, and the small crazes you see in some of the pieces are not cracks, they’re just another natural result of the process.
